Pretzel and snack maker Stellar Snacks plans to invest $137 million to establish a manufacturing facility in Louisville, Kentucky, state officials announced recently.
The 434,000-square-foot facility, which is the largest economic development project in Louisville in 20 years, will create 350 jobs over the next 10 years, including pretzel makers, production, engineering and maintenance managers, mechanics and technicians.
The building is located at the former Black Leaf Chemical site, which produced pesticides, according to media reports. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency labeled the area as a superfund site in 2011, which involved the federal agency and local government to clean up the site.
Stellar Snacks did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Updates at the existing facility are expected to be complete in March and operations are anticipated to begin in September.
“We are thrilled to share that our business has seen astronomical growth after launching our brand in 2021, thanks to our people, passion and exquisite product,” co-founder Elisabeth Galvin said in a statement. “Since then, we have been on a mission to expand production coast to coast.”
Stellar Snacks has been looking to expand its production capacity from coast to coast since the company’s inception in 2021, Galvin said in a statement. The Louisville facility will be Stellar Snacks second expansion. Last year, the Carson City, Nevada-based company established a second facility in Reno.
