Electric vehicle maker Harbinger has named former Tesla manufacturing VP Gilbert Passin as its chief production officer as it readies the launch of its medium-duty electric vehicles in 2024, according to a Dec. 1 press release.
Passin will lead Harbinger’s manufacturing, supply chain, quality and logistics work.
The hiring comes as the EV maker grows its leadership team to help lay the foundation for a successful launch. The company expects to deliver the first vehicles to customers in late 2023, with plans to scale EV production significantly over the next five years, according to the release.
In its initial product line, the California-based automaker plans to include an electric stripped chassis and cab chassis designed for Class 4 to Class 7 medium-duty vehicles.
Passin served as Tesla’s VP of manufacturing from 2010 to 2018, according to a Harbinger spokesperson. While there, he oversaw the launch of the EV maker’s Model S vehicles and led the launches of multiple Tesla operations, including its California-based Fremont factory and initial expansions across China, Europe and North America. Passin also recently served as CEO and COO of EV powertrain company Wrightspeed.
"Gilbert is a very dynamic leader with an incredible breadth of experience, having helped revolutionize the current way the industry manufactures EVs," Harbinger CEO John Harris said in a statement.
