3M has hired a new procurement executive in Kelly Bysouth, who previously was chief supply chain officer of the automotive supplier IAC Group.

In May, 3M brought Bysouth on as SVP of strategic sourcing and packaging solutions for its Enterprise Operations unit, according to a company spokesperson.

Bysouth replaces Rhondia Turano in the role and will report to Peter Gibbons, president of 3M Enterprise Operations. The business unit includes the company’s manufacturing, supply chain and customer operations.

Prior to joining IAC Group, Bysouth held high-level procurement and supply chain roles at other automotive and industrial companies. Those include Adient, Johnson Controls and Ford, where she began as a buyer for interior trim, according to her LinkedIn profile, which also lists her as chief procurement officer for 3M.

3M — which makes everything from sticky notes to surgical suppliers — has said it is increasing its investment in manufacturing and sourcing to “more closely align its product capability with its sales in major geographic areas” and to better serve customers with “proprietary, automated, efficient, safe and sustainable processes.”

Monish Patolawala, 3M CFO and chief transformation officer, said at a conference in March that the company has built up the company’s dual-sourcing practices to expand its vendor base.

“We are re-looking at chemistries that allow us to do material substitution that helps us drive yield and efficiency,” Patolawala said then.
